Located in Lynchburg, Tennessee, this facility will be producing renewable natural gas and natural fertilizer. It will feature anaerobic digesters alongside a gas upgrading plant. These digesters take in spent distillers’ grain, a byproduct of the whiskey distilling process from the Jack Daniel Distillery, as their feedstock. Through a natural process, microorganisms break down the feedstock to produce biogas and natural fertilizer. The biogas then undergoes refinement in the gas upgrading plant to transform it into usable renewable natural gas (RNG).
This innovative process enables Jack Daniel’s to maximize the use of their corn, completing the nutrient life cycle of the corn used in whiskey production. It results in the creation of a nutrient-rich natural commercial fertilizer that can effectively replenish the surrounding farmland.
