Construction Manager At Risk (CMAR)

DCG will provide design reviews to develop your construction project design for efficiency, provide better opportunities for a reduction in change orders, help reduce the cost of construction activities, and most importantly save time on the schedule. When selecting prime contractors we use our experience to base our selections on the highest value rather than the lowest bidder. This results in a higher quality construction project that requires less rework. When you select a CMAR, your scope does not have to be complete for construction to start. When your contractor is completely familiar with the project goals, site work, and in some cases, foundation work can start before the plans are complete.

A CMAR is not always the least expensive delivery method. This can be due to project complexity, the risks that are transferred to the construction manager, and (in some instances) working with an incomplete scope of work. However, if it were easy, clients would not need specialized expertise and value engineering to complete the project. DCG’s clients still save money over alternative methods of construction due to interests being aligned from the outset when working with DCG as your CMAR. When you hire DCG as a CMAR, our team is going to be overly diligent in monitoring the budget and schedule, because if anything is out of line, it will go against their predetermined profit for the project.

Engineering

Process and design improvement are characteristic of and intrinsic to how DCG approaches construction projects. Our licensed professional engineers build value into every stage of a project - from material selection and cost-effectiveness to limiting environmental impacts and optimizing efficiencies. Our in-house professional engineering division ensures we complete projects that maximize functional and aesthetic design from the ground up. From Preliminary Engineering Reports to comprehensive Master Plans, DCG provides dependable expertise and reliable solutions that ensure success through every phase of construction.

Project Manager

Our project management team focuses heavily on value engineering in an organized attempt to optimize the overall value of the project in project management endeavors. Often, creative strategies will be utilized to achieve the lowest life cycle cost available for the project. This means the project manager and all stakeholders consider all costs associated with the project, from the initial design of the product or service through to delivery and completion. First and foremost, DCG’s project managers serve as an advocate for the business goals of the project, not at the behest of our internal craft teams, or our valued sub-contractor network. The team then considers any cost-saving alternatives to be employed throughout all phases of the project. In all phases of the project, our project managers are looking to lower operating and total cost of ownership along with lower up-front expenses. When studying all phases, project managers will be looking for ways to improve cost-effectiveness without adversely impacting the quality, reliability, performance, or reputation of the project. Our project managers provide a competitive advantage by producing results that will deliver more to your bottom line.

Heavy Civil

Material Processing - Dorado Construction Group
DCG specializes in infrastructure improvements requiring heavy equipment and professional civil engineering. Our heavy equipment division maintains a fleet of tractors, dozers, and aggregate producing impact crushers, working hand in hand with our professional engineering team to plan new projects, add to existing developments, as well as completing remediation services, and providing maintenance.

Material Processing

Material Processing - Dorado Construction Group
DCG’s material mining and processing group are both built upon a skilled team of competent professionals and modern, mobile, high-quality equipment. DCG will work to find a close-proximity materials source to meet the necessary specification for the aggregates required to meet the foundation needs. A closer mining source to the project allows us to cut both freight expense and hauling time significantly.

Mass Excavation

Material Processing - Dorado Construction Group
DCG’s setup allows us to move awestriking amounts of earth in short order - utilizing large bulldozers, articulated dump trucks, and scrapers. Having completed projects that required moving over 750,000 cubic yards of material, no job is too much earth to move. Our civil crews work on a wide variety of projects! Whether it’s digging stormwater retention ponds, rebuilding dams, cut and fill site work, to building a new landfill, our operators will get the material moved out and put back in place correctly and on schedule. When moving substantial amounts of soils, each step must integrate with the end goal, or the time required grows due to having to handle to material multiple times.

Sitework

Material Processing - Dorado Construction Group
Once we have managed to do the mass excavation, our finish operators will utilize decades of experience combined with modern technology to lay in, compact, and blade material to whatever specification the project calls for.

For smaller projects that require more agility, DCG will deliver a skid steer outfitted with a grading implement to blade, compact, and exit smaller pad sites in shorter time than it would take to mobilize in with all the equipment necessary to deliver a compacted pad using more cumbersome traditional methods.
For larger sites, DCG combines skilled operators, machine control, and 250 horsepower motor graders to match the finished product to the design specifications on the proposed civil drawings. Our civil crews mobilize to the job site and excavate to the design elevation. Once the rough grading is achieved within tolerance, we can perform a variety of soil stabilization methods. Utilizing our Wirtgen mixer enables us to place lime and cement at precise ratios for improving soil strength. Experienced supervisors ensure subgrades are moisture conditioned and compacted to laboratory optimum values before fine grading to exacting specifications.

Drinking Water Supply Wells
In order to keep up with population growth, drinking water supply districts must develop new infrastructure to maintain enough supply for the increased demand. DCG strives to serve the drilling operations and transmission of potable water to new MUDs. DCG takes the approach of a general contractor for these projects, yet self performs heavy civil and wet utility work. This enables us to streamline construction schedules by integrating the overlapping trades with goals that are more closely aligned than multiple contractors working parallel. Teams with similarly aligned goals work to increase processes so every project runs more smoothly and reduces delays.v
Wastewater Treatment
DCG is carving out a niche in the water treatment space because of the internal skillset and resource strength of the company, making us well suited to perform in this space due to the required capital, time, and project management abilities. Water treatment is an equipment intensive and inherently expensive endeavor. Plant upgrades involve improvements to aging mechanical and electrical components which means the contractor will encounter unforeseen conditions. In a competitive bid environment, contractors need to account for the unique qualities of secondary and tertiary treatment processes within the engineer’s new scope. Plant work is also unique in that whole systems must be brought online as quickly as possible with minimal downtime in the interim. DCG takes pride in performing work that enhances water quality for communities of all sizes and means.
Wet Utilities
On complex utilities projects, DCG’s primary deliverable is experience and agile solutions for clients who need more than just a pipe-liner. We often work with municipalities with tight budgets or funding from government agencies with strict contract administration requirements such as USDA, FEMA, etc. Water districts that have been able to secure grants sometimes means that they have crumbling infrastructure and a dire need to bring their systems up to code. DCG is outfitted to perform municipal, state, and federally backed water and sewer utility projects with literally hundreds of years of combined experience in this space. We have successfully installed various sizes and types of pipe material, including: Fiberglass, Ductile Iron, PVC, Steel, Concrete, High Density Polyethylene, and others. Hot taps, street cuts, and traffic control each represent a unique challenge on every public utility project. DCG’s crews expect to have issues arise and will take on these challenges directly, as opposed to hoping for change orders.
